Welcome to the Chairs’s page

Hello and welcome to our website.

Well here we are after the main Carnival event and you may not realise that we are still busy, this time organising The Touring Band to visit other Carnivals. Please see the home page for Carnivals we are attending this year. If you did not get the opportunity to join in the fun in Preston, contact us to join the Touring Band.

If you came out on the 16 May (King and Queen Costume contest) and the main Carnival event on the 24 May, thank you so much for your support. Without it Carnival would not be as successful. I worked on Avenham Park on Carnival day so did not get to see the procession. I believe that many of the costumes were received with enthusiasm by the very large crowd who came out to support us.

Hopefully you would have also come down to Avenham Park to enjoy the entertainment on the stage. We had a selection on artists performing various acts such as a Samba Band, Singers, African Drummers, and Salsa Dancing. We were blessed with good weather on the day, for which we were very thankful. We also had a selection of concessions on the Park, many selling Caribbean Cuisine. Hope you had the chance to sample from the different types of food on sale.

As usual there was a lot of hard work and organisational skills needed to put on the event. The planning for the annual Carnival the starts more or less days after the event finishes. The Committee give up their time, on a voluntary basis, all year round to ensure that Carnival is a success. It is the largest annual event in Preston. Big THANKS to all who has contributed to this.

It would appear that no matter how much planning is carried out we cannot avoid late starts. Apologies for this and thanks for waiting to see the Carnival and stage programme. This time the delays were beyond our control. You would not believe how disappointed we were when we realised that we would not be able to start on time. There were problems loading the generators off the delivery truck onto the Carnival Lorries. The stage was late starting due to the Park condition after a week of very heavy rain.

Hopefully you enjoyed the day as much as we did and that you will continue to give us your support.

Finally I would like to also thank those Council staff involved with assisting and guiding us, to the Artists, Bandleaders and band members. A big THANK YOU to all who Donated Lorries and drivers for the day. To the individual drivers who give their help each year. Thanks to the judges for their input on the King and Queen Show and Carnival Day. To our Sponsors, Funding Bodies and businesses who produce work on a cost only basis. Thank you to everyone, not previously mentioned, who had any input no matter how small. And last but not least, to you the Public who come out to support us and turn the whole event into a success.

Please remember to have a look at the Photo Gallery for this year’s event.
