Welcome to the Chairs’s page

Hello and welcome to our website.  We are in the advance stage of our planning and count down to Carnival 2010.

Preston City Caribbean Carnival is the largest annual event in the city.   Our cultural celebration event is organised by a team of volunteers who give up a lot of their spare time to ensure that the Carnival is successful.  We are looking for extra volunteers to assist with various tasks on the day.  Please contact us via the facility on the home page.

Anyone can participate in Carnival.  Each year we have dedicated Bandleaders and their troupes who eagerly await the start of the workshops.   We, the Committee, also look forward each year to the new participants; those who enjoyed the fun of the pervious year from the sideline and have decided to be a part of the current Carnival.  We have received enquiries via our workshop in The Mall and look forward to new participants joining in the fun this year.

We are hoping once again to welcome bands from outside of Preston.  This is very important to us as they bring extra visitors to the city.

There year’s celebrations take place on Sunday 30 May, starting 12.30pm from Moor Park and arriving at Avenham Park at approximately 4pm.  Please look at the route on the website.  Please also give your support to the King and Queen Costume contest on Saturday 22 May on the Covered Market, starts 1pm.   Your input to this is welcomed; help our judges to select the King and Queen to lead the procession.  Results of the winners will be announced at the party during the evening of the 22nd at Jalgos Sports and Social Club, Rose Street, Preston, PR1 3XY.

Our workshops start early April with the Design stage.  (Please check the workshop timetable for exact dates)  It is vital that you attend to obtain assistance from the Artists, who will help to bring your thoughts and ideas alive.  We have again secured the input of an artist from Leeds, who has over thirty year’s experience of making Carnival costumes.

We are all looking forward to this year’s Carnival and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.  Please remember that this is your Carnival.  The event can only succeed with strength of the community behind it.   This year there is an official Carnival Party to be held at Lava and Ignite, on Carnival night.  More details can be obtained on this website over the weeks prior to Carnival.

Enjoy your Carnival.
