Welcome to the Chairs’s page
Hello and thank you for visiting our Website.
It is now over a month since Carnival 2008 and I owe you an apology for not updating my page earlier. I cannot believe that the time has gone so quickly.
First, I would like to thank you for the support you gave to Carnival this year, you turned out in your thousands and patiently waited for us. Thank you for your continued support.
Second, please accept my apologies for the delayed start. We had a couple of problems caused by our generators and a lorry breaking down. One we could have planned against and the other was totally outside of our control.
I understand that some spectators did not appreciate that the Carnival would not be going along the length of Fishergate at the start of the procession. We have discussed this in our de-brief meeting and will be putting something in place to address this in 2009. However, just a brief explanation of the 2008 route; we came up Chapel Street and turned left onto Fishergate, went down Corporation Street, followed the route outside the City Centre and returned via Church Street, onto Fishergate and back down Chapel Street onto Avenham Park to join the ongoing entertainment. The event on the park continued until 8 pm.
We were lucky that it did not rain. It was a little too windy for some of the larger costumes and some of our participants wearing them had the bruises to show. We hope you enjoyed the costumes. This year we used some new techniques and were able to make larger costumes with more fluidity. We are hoping to build on this even more for 2009.
My thanks go out to the Committee who worked tirelessly, on a voluntary basis, juggling their full time employment with the demands of putting on the event. Also to those Council staff involved with assisting and guiding us, to the Artists, Bandleaders and band members. Big thanks to all who donated Lorries and drivers for the day. To the individual drivers who give their help each year. Thanks to the judges for their input on the King and Queen Show and Carnival Day. To our Sponsors, Funding Bodies and businesses who produce work on a cost only basis. Thank you to everyone, not previously mentioned, who had any input no matter how small. And last but not least, to you the Public who come out to support us and turn the whole event into a success.
Don’t forget to have a look at the Photo Gallery for this year’s event.
