Would you like to feel like you put your creative input into the Preston Carnival this year? Preston Carnival needs your help. The committee is now on the lookout for volunteers to get involved with making some of the amazing props that help make the Carnival the biggest and most colourful party Preston sees each year. All the sequins, feathers and fabrics that you see on the day have to be made somewhere and this year we are looking for creative local people to help. In conjunction with UCLAN, there are a series of 5 free workshops being help In The City Shop, in Preston town centre on Saturday’s leading up to the Carnival. In the City Shop is an initiative by UCLAN to strengthen links with the Preston community. The space is on Lune Street and part of St Georges shopping centre so it is easy to get to. You can see more about the venue here. The first workshop on the 14th April was a big success with sewing machines whizzing together costumes that will be used on the big day. Future workshops will be held on Saturday the 21st and Saturday 28th April followed by Saturday the 5th and Saturday 12th of May. Each workshop is 3.5hrs long, starting at 1.30pm and finishing by 5pm. The best bit will then be watching the procession on the 10th June to try to spot what you helped make. These afternoons are great fun, free of charge and a nice way to meet other crafty types who want to help make the Carnival the most flamboyant and colourful day of the year for Preston.   For more information or to volunteer your help, contact Colleen Francis on 01772 893453 or email cfrancis@uclan.ac.uk. If you would describe yourself as less than creative, we are sure you will know someone that is so pass the message on. The more volunteers, the merrier!
