2021 Preston Caribbean Carnival Is ON! Preston Carnival committee are pleased to announce that funding has been granted from Arts Council, England and a carnival celebration will therefore go ahead in 2021. The Carnival committee received the exciting news that their application to the Arts Council England for funding had been given the go ahead and so they are now busy organising the biggest and most colourful party Preston will see this year. Without funding, the carnival could not have gone ahead but thanks to the Arts Council England and National Lottery funds the organisers are now able to commission new large piece and small piece costumes. Work will start soon to create costumes and displays for the event. The 46th and 47th Preston Caribbean Carnival is planning to brighten up the City of Preston on the 1 August 2021. The Committee are working closely with Preston City Council who are supporting the event again this year and are eagerly awaiting further information from the government for guidance on outdoor events following the announcement that the target date to open up such is planned for June 2021. The event will therefore not be able to go ahead around the usual date and has been pencilled in for Sunday 1 August 2021. Tracey Harris, Chairperson of Preston Caribbean Carnival says, “We are continuing to plan as usual for our 2021 carnival but with news of a third wave of the corona virus pandemic hitting the UK, we must consider safety of everyone which is of paramount importance. It is vital that everyone is safe and therefore we cannot make a final decision on whether the event will take place until nearer the time” and “we will continue to monitor the situation and be led by the government guidance”. Like all events around the world, the 2020 event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic but the committee remain optimistic for 2021 despite much larger events such as Glastonbury already cancelled. For news of Preston Caribbean Carnival, follow us on social media and we will keep you up to date with developments. Extra funds are still needed to make the event a big success for Preston so the Committee are currently seeking sponsors and advertisers to raise more funds.
